What have we done?
2013 documentary about Umbrella of Hope in Nyeri.
Hot meals during school days
Since 2007, we have been providing a warm, nutritious meal to a fixed group of approximately 25 children on school days. The group is put together in close consultation with the team of the Githwaringa Primary School. In the meantime, approximately 70 children have been able to complete Primary School, partly thanks to your donations.
After school
After school, the children are cared for for about an hour at our location. They can do their homework here.
Between 2010 and 2016, the then guardian maintained a singing and dancing group. They rehearsed together weekly and had several public performances in Nyeri. Unfortunately, we currently have no one to continue this great initiative.
Personal sponsorship
Our foundation focuses primarily on children in primary school. Sometimes, thanks to personal sponsorship, we can help a child with his or her secondary education. Justus has been attending Secondary School since 2015. A personal sponsor pays his full school fees, €600 per year. This gives Justus so many more opportunities to build an independent existence in the future. Umbrella of Hope was able to make contact, but without a sponsor Justus would probably have been doomed to earn money as a parcel carrier at the market, or worse, as a drug courier. So a very sincere Thank you = Asante Sana to Justus' sponsor.
Water tanks
The location, which Umbrella of Hope can use free of charge, had one small water tap. In 2013, thanks to a crowdfunding campaign, we were able to install 2 water tanks. The filtered rainwater from our storage tanks is sufficient for the kitchen and the sanitary block. A great improvement.
